I went out on an adventure this morning with my camera to capture whatever caught my eye. I happened to drive past this old house and snapped a few pictures. When I got back and started working with this picture, the beauty of the home became more and more apparent to me. I wanted to find a quote that showed how I was feeling when I looked at this photo and after searching the internet I think I found the perfect one. “Just because it’s not useful anymore, doesn’t mean it’s not still beautiful”, author unknown.
One of my New Year’s resolutions is to start seeing more beauty in the world. It seems like right now there is so much negativity, ugliness, and hate being shown. I want to change “my” world and reflect on the beauty. Of course, the world will always be full of the hate, negativity, and ugliness, but it is what we choose in life that will determine our outcome.
When I look at this house I see the beauty of the memories it holds. At one time or another, I can imagine this house was filled with the smell of fresh baked cookies or the aroma of just out of the oven bread. I can picture many family gatherings with lots of bubbling and roaring laughter. I can see a beautiful, colorful flower garden covering the front of the home and I’m sure there were many mornings of sightings of wildlife as the sun came up over the new horizon.
I didn’t know the family(s) who lived here, but I can only imagine that happy moments were shared in this beautiful place that someone once called home. I think it is times like now that we need to start picking out more of the beauty in the world and see it for what it really is, an amazing place to be!
